Virtual Reality and Its Future Applications
By Anjali Dubey
Have you ever looked at the goggles and games in the mall’s game zone and wondered how exactly the device is able to trick us into thinking that we’re about to fall or are in a completely different place? Well, this is done through the use of a new and developing technology called virtual reality. Virtual Reality is a new concept in the digital world where an artificial environment is created using software. It is presented in such a way that the user treats the digital environment as a real one.The use of the term “virtual reality,” was first coined in the mid-1980s when Jaron Lanier, founder of VPL Research, began to develop the gear needed to experience what he then called “virtual reality”.
This fabricated reality is primarily experienced through our senses i.e. sight and sound which is simulated through the use of interactive devices which send and receive information and are worn as goggles, headsets, gloves and bodysuits. The simplest form of virtual reality is a 3D(Three Dimensional) image that can be explored interactively on a personal computer. It can be done by manipulating the computer keys or the mouse so that the content of the image moves in the same direction or zooms in or out. Virtual reality is also widely used in architecture to see a visual representation of the room, floor or building design, in arts to draw, sculpt or paint in a virtual environment, in medicine to view the organs of the human body ,in sports to measure athletic performance and analysing technique and in entertainment for gaming or engaging with museums, exhibits, concerts or galleries virtually.
Virtual reality is predicted to be one of the highest growing fields of technology in the future, and the continuous research and development going on in the field helps us produce more futuristic devices and progressive technology. It is an industry that is revolutionising the world and companies throughout the world are taking steps to incorporate it into their products. With constant research and progress in the field we are sure to achieve success in making significant developments in this technology and changing the world for the better while using it.
