GirlsCodeIt is committed to creating a safe learning environment for our members and volunteers. When you register to take a course or attend an event, or become a member to learn about future events, we collect information enabling us to contact you with the information you need to attend the course or event of your interest, as well as information about future GirlsCodeIt courses, events, volunteering, or other educational opportunities. We do not sell your information or provide your information to other third-parties or advertisers, except as needed to comply with law or protect our rights. If we receive your registration or membership information through a third-party partner, for example a school district or after school organization, we agree to adhere to information handling privacy policies of our third-party partner.
Website Visitor Analytics
The Website may employ clear gifs (also known as web beacons) which are used to anonymously track the online usage patterns of our users. In addition, we may also use clear gifs in HTML-based emails sent to our users to track which emails are opened and which links are clicked by recipients. This information allows for more accurate reporting and improvement of the Website. We may also collect analytics data, or use third-party analytics tools, to help us measure traffic and usage trends. These tools collect information sent by your browser or mobile device, including the pages you visit, your use of third-party applications, and other information that assists us in analyzing and improving the Websites.
Virtual Course Attendance Screenshots
On occasion, GirlsCodeIt reserves the right to utilize screenshots taken during GirlsCodeIt virtual courses or events to be used for GirlsCodeIt marketing purposes, for example, for use on Website, social media, blogs or email outreach. GirlsCodeIt course participants are advised to be aware of the status sharing their video feed while attending GirlsCodeIt courses, and to turn off their video feed if they do not wish to be included in occasional screenshot usages as described above.
We will only retain your information for as long as necessary to fulfill the prior mentioned purposes of contacting you with the information you need to attend the course or event of your interest, as well as information about future GirlsCodeIt courses, events, volunteering, or other educational opportunities. At least once every five years, we delete the information of persons with no engagement within that time period, retaining only enough information to assure that persons who have elected to opt out of GirlsCodeIt communications are not opted back in.
Data Breach Notification
In the event of any suspected data breach, we will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.
Deletion of Content from California Residents
If you are a California resident under the age of 18 and have registered for an event or are a member, California Business and Professions Code Section 22581 permits you to remove content or Personal Information you have publicly posted. If you wish to remove such content or Personal Information and you specify which content or Personal Information you wish to be removed, we will do so in accordance with applicable law. Please be aware that after removal you will not be able to restore removed content. In addition, such removal does not ensure complete or comprehensive removal of the content or Personal Information you have posted and that there may be circumstances in which the law does not require us to enable removal of content.
COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act)
GirlsCodeIt does not specifically market to children under 13. When it comes to the collection of personal information from children under 13, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) puts parents in control. The Federal Trade Commission, the nation's consumer protection agency, enforces the COPPA Rule, which spells out what operators of websites and online services must do to protect children's privacy and safety online.
